Explore the contributions of African Americans to the musical heritage of the United States, using a variety of engaging children’s books representing diverse music and musicians. Subjects include music from Africa, slave songs, Blues, Jazz, biographies of musicians, instruments, Harlem, Spirituals, Ragtime, drums, dance, Gospel, opera, Reggae, Rock and Roll, Hip Hop, and Poetry. Participants will create an African American music-themed program that is suitable for a family workshop, public or school library program, which includes a variety of books, music, and activities.
